Jackson Middleton, known as the Kilted Broker by many, got his start in the mortgage industry in 2007. He built a successful mortgage business through referrals, content marketing, and social media. In 2014, Jackson founded KiltedMedia and switched from writing mortgages to writing mortgage content and building websites for other mortgage brokers.

In 2021, to offer brokers a more comprehensive marketing solution, Jackson, alongside a few partners, launched Deploy.Online, a marketing company that can help you grow your mortgage business by handling your website management, content marketing, social media scheduling, SEO, business automation, Finmo integration, and CRM.

Jackson is a founding member of 100 Brokers Who Care, a charitable initiative that has helped raise over $175k for very worthwhile causes. On a personal note, Jackson lives on Vancouver Island with his wife and 4 kids. He enjoys cooking in cast iron, eating locally grown food, and is on a journey towards sustainability.

Right now, the biggest trend we’re seeing is brokers leveraging technology to streamline their client journey and make the mortgage process more efficient. Specifically, connecting Finmo to Pipedrive through automation software has proven to be extremely effective.

What's your biggest tip for brokers looking to grow this business?
Adapt to technology and incorporate it into your business. Add value at every step of the
mortgage process. Clients are looking for a digital mortgage experience. Grow your business by staying current with the latest technology as you continue to provide superior customer service to your clients.

What's your philosophy or "go-to" motivation when you think about the Canadian mortgage business?
Without sounding too cliche, building a business is a marathon, not a sprint. I’ve heard it said that it takes 15 years of sustained hard work to become an overnight success. So, start new things, have fun, learn along the way, but keep your head down, make mistakes, and provide value to everyone around you. People like to support people who provide value.

Who inspires you and why?
I’d say I’m not really the inspirational type, but if I had to choose, I’d say I’m inspired by people who choose love over hate, kindness over selfishness, community over isolation. I’m inspired by the people who choose to stand up to the tyranny in this world and protect the most vulnerable, despite the personal cost.

What are you currently bingeing on Netflix?
Every. Cooking. Show. Possible. Seriously, I have a passion for food and cooking. I just bought a charcoal smoker, so I’m all over shows like the taco chronicles, the chef show, chef’s plate, chef’s table, chef’s table BBQ, the great BBQ showdown, and any other shows that include a combination of the words chef and BBQ. A close second is an affinity for post-apocalyptic sci-fi dramas. I watch all of them.

Favourite podcast?
I don’t really listen to podcasts. Instead, I consume a lot of business content on my Instagram account. I prefer the 3-5 min Instagram reels or stories to the long-form podcast.
